Taylor Swift is now the artist with the most wins for Album of the Year as she earns her fourth trophy, thanks to Midnights.
On Sunday, the Eras Tour singer took the stage to celebrate the accolade. She’s now won the Grammy for Album of the Year for LPs Fearless in 2010, 1989 in 2016, Folklore in 2021, and now, Midnights in 2024.
“Lana Del Rey was hiding but I think so many female artists would not be where they are and would not have the inspiration they have if it weren’t for the work she’s done. I think she’s a legacy artist, a legend,” Swift said. “I’m so lucky to know you and to be your friend.”
“I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love or when I’m shot-listing a music video, or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show,” Swift continued. “For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy.”
Swift was previously tied for the most Album of the Year wins with Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, and Frank Sinatra, who each had three wins.
The singer won the awards for Best Pop Vocal Album earlier in the night and announced her upcoming album, Tortured Poets Department. She now has 14 Grammys.
The singer was also nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance and Record and Song of the Year for “Anti-Hero,” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Karma” with Ice Spice.
Swift’s Midnights was nominated against Jon Batiste’s World Music Radio, boygenius’ The Record, Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation, Lana Del Rey’s Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Janelle Monáe’s The Age of Pleasure, Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts, and SZA’s SOS.
Swift released her 10th album Midnights in October 2022, featuring the Del Rey collaboration “Snow on the Beach.” The LP includes the singles “Lavender Haze,” “Maroon,” and “Mastermind.”
“Like many of her purely ‘pop’ releases in the past, Midnights leaves more and more to be uncovered beneath the purple-blue synth fog on the surface,” read a Rolling Stone review of the project. “And maybe that’s part of her scheme to begin with.”
