Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber End Feud, Ask Fans to Stop Online Hate
Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber want to put an end to the drama. Both stars released statements calling for peace on Friday, with Selena kicking things off with a plea to fans to stop sending Hailey death threats over their alleged beef. A few hours later, Hailey took to her Instagram Story to share a message of her own.
“I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I,” wrote Hailey against a black background, similar to the formatting of Selena’s post. “The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this which is extremely harmful.”
Hailey went on to recognize how impactful social media can be when used positively, but pointed out that “moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together.” “Things can always be taken out of context or construed differently than they were intended,” continued Hailey.

Over the past few weeks, the drama between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber has been steadily escalated by online discourse from fans. Since this latest wave of drama between the two stars began in late February, Hailey has reportedly lost 1 million followers on Instagram, while Selena gained 10 million, per Elle.
In her post from the morning of March 24, Selena claimed that Hailey has been on the receiving end of intense, hateful online bullying, including getting death threats. It’s important that both Selena and Hailey have called out how “extremely harmful” this kind of behavior is from fans. Here’s a timeless reminder: on the other side of your computer or phone screens are other human beings.
“We all need to be more thoughtful about what we post and what we say, including myself,” Hailey concluded her statement. “In the end, I believe love will always be bigger than hate and negativity, and there is always an opportunity to meet each other with more empathy and compassion.”
The Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber feud needs to be stopped, says Selena herself.
The actor and Rare Beauty founder shared an Instagram Story on March 24, acknowledging the supposed “drama” that has been building between she and Hailey and the reaction it’s gotten from fans, saying that she wants the conversation around them to stop. According to Selena, Hailey reached out to her directly about what she has been experiencing in recent weeks — and it’s really, really not good.
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Selena wrote against an all-black background. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying.” Selena shared that the reaction from her fans has been the complete opposite of what she believes in. “I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
ICYMI, there’s been a lot of chatter about Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber, and their circle of friends, including Kendall and Kylie Jenner. The conversation started when Kylie posted a video about her eyebrows that fans thought to be a dig at Selena, though both Selena and Kylie were quick to shut those rumors down. Later, a few comments from Selena on TikTok regarding Hailey and Taylor Swift led to more speculation, leading Selena to take a short break from social media. “I’m gonna be taking a second from social media because this is a little silly,” she said at the time. “I’m 30, I’m too old for this.” However, both Hailey and Selena have consistently — and repeatedly — said there’s no drama or bad blood between them. The two stars even hugged and posed together for photos back in October 2022.
It goes without saying that making death threats to anyone, famous or not, is never the correct course of action. No matter if they are your favorite or least favorite, celebrities are people, too, and deserve to be treated as such. Online gossip can be fun to scroll through, but when it’s negatively impacting someone’s mental health and leading to such hateful extremes, it’s time to move on.
