Rob Gronkowski gives shocking take on if Patrick Mahomes can ever catch Tom Brady’s legacy ahead of Super Bowl LVIII

This Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs have a shot at winning their third Super Bowl in four years. If the team manages to accomplish this feat, it will be a remarkable achievement for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has been the biggest factor in turning the Chiefs into a dynasty.
It will also help him close in on Tom Brady and his record of seven Super Bowl wins in 10 appearances. Just two years ago, TB12’s record championship wins were viewed as impossible to catch up to, but that is no longer the case.
Rob Gronkowski, former teammate and close friend of Tom Brady shared his thoughts on the possibility of Mahomes overtaking his QB at Super Bowl Radio Row in Vegas.
I think Patrick Mahomes is the only quarterback that has the potential to catch Brady. There’s going to be so many variables and factors that play into it over the next 15 years.
The tight end acknowledged the possibility of Mahomes overtaking Brady in terms of Super Bowl rings. Gronkowski further said:
Does he want to play…until he’s 45? You don’t know that. That’s only up to him…How long is Andy Reid going to be the head coach for? How long is Travis Kelce going to play with him as his No.1 weapon throughout his whole tenure as a quarterback?
This will be the biggest factor moving forward. There are a lot of variables involved as Gronk pointed out.
Patrick Mahomes’ longevity will be a key factor in his quest to overtake Tom Brady
Since earning the starter’s role, Patrick Mahomes has been in one of the best situations in the NFL. He has had the best wide receivers, a future hall-of-famer as his tight end, and a hall-of-fame coach in Andy Reid. In this environment, success is almost guaranteed. This season was different, as Mahomes struggled due to the lack of offensive weapons.

Rob Gronkowski, however, agrees that Mahomes is the man who can achieve the impossible.
If there’s one guy who can catch Brady, it’s Patrick Mahomes and no one else.
The former tight end still has a hard time believing that Brady’s record can be matched, as he said,
I don’t think it’s going to be achievable because what Tom Brady did is just spectacular.
Tom Brady had three Super Bowl wins as a starter by his sixth season as a starter, but Mahomes has won accolades such as two MVP awards and two All-Pro wins. While the Chiefs have managed to make a trip to the Super Bowl year after year look easy, it is just going to get harder. Team dynamics change, other teams will make improvements in the off-season, and they will figure out ways to limit if not stop Mahomes on offense.
Despite this, if he manages to catch up to Tom Brady, then Patrick Mahomes would rightfully deserve the title of being up there as one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game.
