Kansas City experienced tragedy on Wednesday, with a shooting leaving one dead and dozens injured after they attended the Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade. However, players from the team went out to dine just hours later.
According to TMZ, quarterback Patrick Mahomes planned a dinner at the Granfalloon Restaurant and bar. The Super Bowl MVP is understood to have rented the place out, with police providing security outside.
Travis Kelce has been taking heat for smiling for a selfie with one of the cops, but he was actually going into the bar to join his teammates.
TMZ claims to have spoken to the owner of the establishment, who said there were a few other players there with Mahomes and Kelce and that the event was a private one. He did not share details as to what went on, but we can assume they ate, drank, and had a good time.
That Mahomes and his teammates would go out to keep the good times going after what took place at the parade has left fans baffled. Neither Patrick nor the Chiefs responded to a request for comment from TMZ.
Of course, it’s likely he planned the get-together before the shooting, but one would think that the dinner could have been canceled or at least postponed in light of the situation.
Social media was immediately debating whether or not it was appropriate for the star players to be out celebrating after what had transpired earlier in the day. The opinions appeared to be split down the middle, with some saying they should have held off with their plans, while others arguing that they deserve to move on with their lives:
