Rapper Eazy-E may be gone but he has most certainly not been forgotten. To celebrate the late rapper’s 55th birthday, his family have splashed out on a brand new lavish headstone that’s truly worthy of his legacy.

A ceremony took place on Saturday at Eazy’s final resting place at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Whittier, California, attended by his friends, family and children, along with a veritable army of hardcore fans and well-wishers, to unveil a newly commissioned headstone that properly reflects his status as a hip-hop legend.

The new slab features a selection of photos of Eazy – real name Eric Wright – from his NWA days emblazoned with the phrase ‘Godfather of Gangsta Rap’.
While it does feature the same line from his original, more modest tombstone – ‘we loved him, but God loved him more’ – the new piece adds an extra line that more accurately summarises his legacy: ‘He Put Compton On The Map’. Is anyone going to argue with that?
More importantly, though, the new headstone also includes Eazy’s correct date of birth, fixing a longstanding error which wrongly indicated that the rapper was born in 1964 instead of 1963 – a fact that has apparently bothered his children for years.
Eazy’s kids have stated that this is something that they’ve wanted to do for years, adding that not only was his previous gravesite underwhelming but also misleading too. The fact that they managed to get it all done in time for his 55th birthday was just icing on the cake.
Fans in attendance were just as happy to see Eazy’s legacy respected too, releasing doves in the air, rapping along to his lyrics and doing everything possible to create a party atmosphere that the rapper would’ve been proud of.
When asked about his work, the creator of the tombstone said that he was incredibly nervous when approached to do the job and did everything he could to make sure that it turned out perfect.
It seems like he did a good job, too, because Eazy’s daughters and everyone present all seem to agree that the new stone is a huge improvement and a fitting tribute.
Eric Wright died in 1995 from complications due to AIDS. He was only 30 years old.
