“He Does That To Get Under Our Skin” – Patrick Mahomes Justifies Why Travis Kelce Threw Away Ravens Placekicker Justin Tucker’s Helmet In Pre-Game Drama
In an interview with The Drive on Audacy’s 610 Sports Radio, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes explained the pre-game drama involving teammate Travis Kelce and Ravens placekicker Justin Tucker.
Mahomes, who has been in the league for seven years, revealed requesting Tucker to move his equipment, but despite a minimal adjustment, it wasn’t sufficient.
Kelce then stepped in, tossing away Tucker’s helmet and balls to clear the path.
“He does that to get under our skin.” Patrick Mahomes said as per ESPN. “I asked him to move his stuff and he got up and moved it I think two inches but didn’t move it out of the way. I was going to let it slide but Travis moved it for me and after that I wasn’t going to let him put it back down.
“I have a lot of respect for him as a player and as a kicker. He’s one of the best kickers of all time, probably the best kicker of all time. At the same time, you’ve got to have respect for each team. We all share the field and we try to do that in a respectful way.”
The incident occurred before the Chiefs’ 17-10 victory over the Ravens.
Patrick Mahomes was repeatedly seen moving Justin Tucker’s equipment while warming up for the conference championship game.
Travis Kelce joined in by clearing a path for Mahomes after Tucker set up his helmet and balls.
Tucker initially thought Mahomes and Kelce were engaging in light-hearted banter. He willingly moved his helmet upon Mahomes’ request but found Kelce’s actions more serious.
On January 29th, the Chiefs secured their fourth Super Bowl appearance in six seasons following a 17-10 win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
The stage is ready for Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.
The reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, will face off against the San Francisco 49ers.
Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, will host the live broadcast on CBS and Nickelodeon, with streaming available on Paramount+.
