Exploring Dr. Dre’s $20M Slice of Paradise on Coveted Carbon Beach, Malibu
Dr. Dre, the legendary rapper, hitmaker, Beats entrepreneur, and all-around mogul are saying goodbye to his oceanfront vacation home of more than two decades. The 57-year-old Compton native is publicly offering the Malibu mansion, which was previously occupied by his ex-wife Nicole Young, for an even-steven $20 million.
Even if the house sells at a significant discount, Dre will still make a tidy profit; he bought it in 2000 for around $4.8 million; in the 22 years since, Malibu property values have skyrocketed. The three-story mansion is also notable for its location on a nearly 7,000-square-foot lot on Carbon Beach in Malibu, which has emerged as one of the city’s most expensive neighborhoods.
The property is described as a “contemporary beach estate” that “exudes total luxury and sophistication.” The swanky home, built in the early 1990s, has floor-to-ceiling glass walls that flood every room with natural light and views of the whitewater. The front door opens into a brief foyer that leads guests to a vast great room primed for entertaining, complete with a striking stone fireplace and sliding glass doors that open to a beachside balcony, hidden behind gates, a courtyard-style entry, and an extensive security system.
A kitchen with premium stainless appliances, a carpeted primary bedroom with a fireplace, a sitting area and private balcony, a primary closet with a sauna, an executive office, a recording studio, a massive gym, and five guest bedrooms are among the other open-concept living spaces. This is one of the larger Carbon Beach homes, measuring nearly 9,000 square feet.
This isn’t the first time Dre has tried to sell his Malibu vacation home, which is a 5-minute walk from Nobu Malibu and was occupied by Nicole Young during the couple’s contentious divorce. A decade ago, the Pacific Coast Highway property was on the market for a few months with asking prices ranging from $11 million to $12.5 million.
Dre finalized his divorce from Young in December, reportedly paying her a $100 million lump sum but keeping all of the marital homes — including the Malibu mansion, two Calabasas mansions, and a $40 million Brentwood estate he purchased from Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen — for himself. According to Forbes, his current net worth is $400 million.
The listing is held by Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency.
