Eric “Eazy-E” Wright passed away in March 1995, bringing his journey to a cruel and sudden end. Naturally, the N.W.A legend’s daughter Ebie Wright wants to bring his story to the big screen with a documentary about his life. But she’s having trouble wrangling one of Eazy-E’s most important collaborators — Ice Cube.

In a recent interview with Too Fab,Wright admitted her father’s fellow N.W.A pioneer has been avoiding her, explaining, “There’s so many people that are talking on this about my father and are in support of what I’m doing, and have been there for me, and just have a lot of great things to say about him, and not just even great things, but also just telling their story… what they know, what they’ve seen, their relationship with my father. How he paved the way for them, opened many doors for them.
“The only thing I will say honestly, is probably the only person that actually matters to this story I’m telling, who hasn’t talked on it so far, I’m just being completely honest … is Ice Cube.
Wright then claimed Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson even told her his father was on board.
“You know, it really breaks my heart that he hasn’t spoken on this yet because I grew up with his sons and I have a really good relationship with them,” she added. “He actually told me that Ice Cube was willing. He was gonna do whatever for me and he was down. Since then, when we tried to book him to do the interview, he’s been ducking and dodging.”
Ice Cube has spoken about Eazy-E and his N.W.A days in numerous interviews, so Wright is understandably confused over the perceived disinterest. Wright’s documentary project, titled A Ruthless Scandal: No More Lies, explores the conspiracy theory Eazy-E was actually murdered instead of losing his battle with AIDS. The doc’s overarching intention is to prove he was killed, while also implicating people in his death.
As Wright explains in the trailer, she’s been working on the film with her mother Tracy and sister Erica for many years. Within the first two minutes of the clip, Wright questions why there was “so much cover up” surrounding his death. She says Eazy-E was diagnosed with AIDS (not HIV) three weeks before he died. He was then placed in isolation immediately upon arrival at the hospital and not allowed to see family or friends.
A lawyer he’d had for only two months then drew up a living trust while Eazy was on his death bed and two days later, a “secret wedding” took place. Then, she says his entire estate was looted while he laid in a coma.
Audio of N.W.A’s former manager, the late Jerry Heller, is heard in the trailer as well and he says he finds it impossible Eazy-E died so quickly from AIDS. So far, Wright hasn’t confirmed a release date for the project. Until then, check out the Kickstarter trailer below.
