Dr. Dre Reportedly Tore His Prenup as “Grand gesture of love”, His Ex-Wife Ended Up With $100M
Dr. Dre is a renowned rapper who has firmly established himself in the hip-hop world. However, his reputation was severely affected as his then-wife accused him of physical assault. The rapper was married to Nicole Young, with whom he had an expensive divorce.
The separation not only cost him a whopping amount but he was also labeled as a wife-beater. While their marriage ended on a sour note, there was a time when the couple was truly in love. During their marriage, Dre reportedly destroyed the prenup document as a gesture to show his love to his now ex-wife.
Dr. Dre wanted no financial restrictions in his relationship with Nicole Young
After establishing himself as a well-reputed rapper in the industry, Dr. Dre shifted his attention to his love life and married Nicole Young in 1996. According to the sources on Young’s side, Dre was so confident about his marriage that no prenuptial agreement existed between them.
On the other hand, it was claimed by Dre’s sources that they did sign a prenup before tying knots, but he tore it up. As per The Blast, Dre,
“destroyed the agreements as a grand gesture of his love for Nicole and his desire to have a marriage free of any financial restrictions governing their respective rights and responsibilities.”
However, all his hopes for his marriage came to an end when the couple decided to part ways in 2000. TMZ reported that Young filed the divorce stating irreconcilable differences as a reason for their separation. Their relationship ended on a very disturbing note as Young accused Dre of physical abuse. However, she was financially benefitted by the divorce as she ended up with $100 million.
Dr. Dre faced a financial setback after his divorce
Dr. Dre shares two children with Nicole Young, who were already adults by the time of their divorce. So child support wasn’t required. But then again, no prenup existed in Dre and Young’s marriage,
Dre was ordered by the court to give Young $50 million at the time of divorce and another $50 million in the following year. According to NBC News, apart from getting a whopping amount, Young also benefitted in kind and got to keep jewelry and four luxury vehicles.
Dre not only lost $100 in his divorce but his reputation in the industry was also severely affected as his ex-wife accused him of physical assault. However, Dre denied all the accusations.
