Grammy Award-winning artist T-Pain sparked a spirited debate following a recent Twitch session in which he berated new rappers for their unoriginality.

On Wednesday (July 14), Dr. Dre couldn’t help himself from commenting on T-Pain’s impassioned diatribe and addressed it on Instagram, his first post since May.
“Shoutout to @tpain!!” Dre wrote alongside a clip of T-Pain’s soliloquy. “I’m here laughing my fuckin ass off, but he’s right. I know and feel exactly what you’re saying.”
And Dr. Dre speaks from experience. The Hip Hop mogul broke down several barriers when he and the rest of the N.W.A crew had the moxie to shout “Fuck Tha Police” in 1988. As gangsta rap began its West Coast ascent, Dr. Dre was at the helm, paving the way for others to follow.
T-Pain on the other hand, who’s often referred to as the Godfather of Auto-Tune, dominated the mid-aughts with over 50 Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers. Needless to say, both Dr. Dre and T-Pain have an ear for making hits.
But as T-Pain made painfully clear, he’s tired of the same old song and dance. During his entertaining Twitch rampage, he begged aspiring artists to do something new.“We have all the shit you’re doing,” he said in part. “Lil Uzi Vert is already it. Lil Baby is already doing it. DaBaby is already doing it. It’s literally two n-ggas with Baby in their name that’s already doing all the music you want.
“Do something else! Do something else! That’s it! That’s all we want. Do something else! Holy shit. We have it! We have it already!”
T-Pain later took to Twitter and explained why he feels the way he does after he faced backlash for his commentary.
“I undrstnd not every1 likes me and may not agree with my opinions but by all means don’t make up dumb shit like ‘he just mad because he ain’t got no hits.’ I’m in all different genres. Got 2 legit Grammies in the last 3 years and got a song out rn that’s top 15 on radio in the US.”
“I’m not explaining myself I just don’t like ppl being content with being stupid and uninformed. If some rando talked shit on your page you’d look up all their SM pages to see what dirt you can get ? just do a little research before you think you hittin me wit somethin.”
